Objective: Viola odorata has a characteristic as antifungal, antibacterial, anticancer, antioxidant, antiasthmatic, anti-inflammatory, anti-HIV, and antipyretic agents. The aim of this study was detected about bioactive compounds in the methanolic extract of V. Methods: The methanolic extract was analyzed through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry GC-MS for the identification of different compounds. Results: The current study investigated about phytochemicals in flowers of V. GC-MS analysis of the methanol extract of flowers showed 84 compounds. The highest concentration was for components which include ethanol, 2- 9,octadecadienyl oxy -, Z,Z -; pentadecanoic acid; 1-pentacosanol; 1-pentacosanol; 2-furan carboxaldehyde, 5- hydroxymethyl -; 1,2 benzenedicarboxylic acid, diisooctyl ester; and docosane, butyl- and gamma-sitosterol. The peak area and retention time for each components, respectively, were

Metrics details. Many medicinal plants from Leguminosae family can be found easily in Malaysia. These plants have been used as traditional medicines by local ethnic groups, where they are prepared as decoction, pastes for wound infections, and some have been eaten as salad. This paper focused on the assessment of antioxidant potential, antibacterial activity and classes of phytochemicals of nine plants from the Leguminosae family. Acacia auriculiformis , Bauhinia kockiana , Bauhinia purpurea , Caesalpinia pulcherrima , Calliandra tergemina , Cassia surattensis, Leucaena leucocephala , Peltophorum pterocarpum , and Samanea saman were extracted with aqueous methanol and dichloromethane:methanol mixture to test for antioxidant and antibacterial activities.

Medicinal plants have been an important source for the discovery of therapeutic agents for infectious diseases. In order to explore their potential an appropriate selection of plant species is important. In our attempt to find hits targeting antiprotozoal diseases, we utilized an extract library setting, and ethnomedicinal information. A library of plant and fungal extracts was screened for in vitro effects against Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense STIB strain and Plasmodium falciparum K1 strain. The ethyl acetate extract of Saussurea costus roots, and the methanolic extract of Carica papaya leaves were selected for further studies.

Handbook of Phytochemical Constituents of GRAS Herbs and Other Economic Plants

In traditional medicine, there has been a great deal of research on the effects exhibited by medicinal materials. To study the effects, resources that can systematically describe the chemical compounds in medicinal materials are necessary. In recent years, numerous databases on medicinal materials and constituent compounds have been constructed. However, because these databases provide differing information and the sources of such information are unclear or difficult to verify, it is difficult to decide which database to use. Moreover, there is much overlapping information.

The U. Department of Agriculture USDA is made up of 29 agencies and offices with nearly , employees who serve the American people at more than 4, locations across the country and abroad. Data provider:. United States Department of Agriculture. Lookup at Google Scholar. In addition to Duke's own publications, the database documents phytochemical information and quantitative data collected over many years through research results presented at meetings and symposia, and findings from the published scientific literature. The current Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical databases facilitate plant, chemical, bioactivity, and ethnobotany searches.
